Final Card
Card: Fawkes the Phoenix
Reasoning: A soft, beautiful promise of hope and healing. While not necessarily immediate or tangible, it promises help and peace. Fawkes serves as a faithful companion to Dumbledore, and is the instrument through which Dumbledore helps Harry in the Chamber of Secrets. Fawkes delivers the hat and sword to aid Harry, and blinds the basilisk to give Harry a fighting chance. Fawkes's song gives Harry the strength to fight on, and Fawkes's tears heal Harry when the battle is over, before carrying Harry and company to safety.
In a traditional tarot deck, this is the Star.

Notes
The first card in this series I completed, and is one of my favorites.
In my other attempts at a Harry Potter tarot deck, Fawkes was placed as Card #2, the High Priestess. I always felt a bit awkward with that assignment, but could think of no better character/creature to take it. Then Luna Lovegood came along, and it just felt right to move Fawkes to the Star card.
I'm not as comfortable drawing animals as I am drawing people, so it's a good thing that phoenixes are never seen by muggles like me, so I can't really get it "wrong"! XD
Incidentally, I LOVE Fawkes in the Chamber of Secrets movie... absolutely perfect. But I wanted to try my own version rather than copying that fine design. |
