What
was to become of the smart, handsome, and deeply troubled Slytherin
student Tom Marvolo Riddle...the most terrifying Dark Wizard of
modern times. Lord Voldemort is a name so feared that most wizards
and witches fear to even utter it. He grew from a promising young
man to the leader of a racist movement against Muggles and Muggle-borns;
he and his DeathEater army are responsible for the slaughter of
hundreds and the trauma of many more. In his quest for immortality,
Voldemort did strange and terrible magic to his own body, which,
while protecting him from death, made him a horrifying specter:
tall, bald, with ghastly white skin, red eyes and slitted nostrils
like a snake.
It seemed nothing could stop Lord Voldemort from taking over everything,
when he attempted to murder Harry Potter, out of fear of a prophecy
that Harry would be his downfall. For some strange reason, the
killing curse he applied to the infant Harry not only failed,
but backfired and reduced Voldemort into a shadow of his former
self; not alive, but not quite dead. He lurked about for about
a decade, before brainwashing Professor Quirrell and subsequently
taking over a portion of his body in order to gain strength. Later,
he was aided by Peter Pettigrew and with a bit of Harry Potter,
was returned to full and terrible strength.
For the first year after Voldemort's rebirth, the Ministry of
Magic, led by Cornelius Fudge, was in complete denial. The popular
wizarding media reflected this denial, and therefore Voldemort
was opposed only by Dumbledore and the Order of the Phoenix. Fortunately,
when Voldemort set his Death Eaters on the Ministry itself, the
truth was exposed. Now Voldemort will be against the greater wizarding
community as well. |
