TOM MARVOLO RIDDLE

Tom Marvolo Riddle went to Hogwarts some 50 years before Harry Potter and his friends. A half-blood Slytherin boy with black hair, Tom was an orphan like Harry. He was a parsel-mouth and a very gifted student, prefect, and Head Boy. Unfortunately, something went wrong with Tom, a sadistic, cold and controlling child, and he ended up using his talents in very destructive ways, eventually achieving evil like no wizard or witch had done before....he became Lord Voldemort. Using a magical diary as a gateway from the past, Tom managed to ensnare Ginny Weasley through his charm and magical prowess, and forced her to set loose the Basilisk to kill muggle-born students. Also through that diary, Tom tricked Harry into believing that it was Hagrid who opened the Chamber 50 years prior. It really was a stunning bit of magic, and quite fascinating to read. It taught Harry and his friends an important lesson: "don't trust magical things that think for themselves, if you can't see where it keeps it's brain." Tom is a character I didn't really pay much attention to at first. I thought it was kind of interesting how he is the direct heir of Salazar Slytherin, turned into Voldemort and how he seeks to become immortal and to eradicate all muggle-born although he himself had a muggle parent. He seems similar to Hitler in many ways.
