SIRIUS BLACK
Sirius
Black was James Potter's best friend, and became Harry's godfather.
He was a notorious prankster in his day, and when marauding with
his Hogwarts pals, Sirius went by the nickname of 'Padfoot', as
he transformed into a large black dog. However, his humor had
a dark streak to it; it was his idea of a "joke" to
send Snape after the werewolf Lupin, putting Snape in grave danger
and risking making Lupin a murderer. This streak of darkness is
still apparent in Sirius.... he viciously slashed the portrait
of the Fat Lady in his attempt to get to Peter. Indeed, he was
fiercely protective and loving of his friends, but can be equally
malicious to his enemies. In this respect, he was quite similar
to Severus Snape, although I'm sure he'd deck me for saying that.....
Sirius seemed to possess many of the same traits as his animagus
form. He was described as eating in a very doglike way, and his
laugh sounded more like a bark.
Sirius was framed for the traitorous acts leading to the deaths
of James & Lily, as well as a street full of muggles. He was
sent to Azkaban without a trial, while the real traitor and murderer,
Peter Pettigrew went into hiding. Kept sane by thoughts of his
innocence, protecting Harry and avenging James & Lily's deaths,
Sirius managed to escape the inescapable prison.
Sirius took his role as godfather very seriously, and it pained
him to stay in hiding instead of caring for Harry. But he loved
having the Order of the Phoenix meet at his old house, and every
once in awhile you caught a glimpse of the carefree prankster
he used to be. He was last in the line of a very old pureblood
family; Sirius had ties all around the pureblood wizard community,
including links to Narcissa Malfoy. It appears that Sirius was
the only members of the family to denounce the elite pureblood
mentality, making him the black sheep of the Black family.
Sirius fought at the battle against Death Eaters in the Department
of Mysteries, and was forced beyond the mysterious black veil
by Bellatrix Lestrange. He is presumed dead. Sirus's name has
since been cleared posthumously by the Ministry of Magic. |
"'Thanks,'
said Sirius... grabbing a drumstick, sitting down on the cave
floor, and tearing off a large chunk with his teeth. 'I've been
living off rats, mostly. Can't steal too much food from Hogsmeade;
I'd draw attention to myself.' He grinned up at Harry, but Harry
returned the grin only reluctantly. 'What are you doing here,
Sirius?' he said. 'Fulfilling my duty as a godfather,' said
Sirius, gnawing on the chicken bone in a very doglike way. 'Don't
worry about it, I'm pretending to be a lovable stray.'
