JAMES and LILY POTTER
Harry Potter's deceased parents, whom he resembles remarkably: his father's
features and jet-black hair; his mother's striking, almond-shaped
green eyes. James was Hogwarts headboy, Quidditch extraordinaire
and notorious prankster when teaming with his Marauder friends.
Lily Evans was also headgirl of Hogwarts and sister to Harry's
horrible Aunt Petunia. They really seem a beautiful couple (once
Lily started giving James the time of day...hehe). I picture them
as very much in love and wonderful parents, however briefly, to
their only son.
We got a glimpse of their personalities when Harry took a trip
into Professor Snape's memory via the penseive. Lily was kind,
standing up for the underdog Snape, and fiesty in chastizing and
rejecting James. Unfortunately, James turned out to be rather
arrogent, but he eventually outgrew that. According to Sirius,
James detested the dark arts, and I would assume Lily does as
well, as they 'thrice defied' Lord Voldemort later on. Voldemort
eventually murdered the Potters, fearing a prophesy that their
son would be his downfall. Unfortunately for Voldemort, he was
unaware of vital parts of the prophesy, and that ignorance in
addition to Lily sacrificing herself for Harry caused the curse
to backfire, sparing Harry and nearly destroying the Dark Lord.
They show up gradually more often as Harry ages, first as images
in the Mirror of Erised, then as shadows from the wand of Lord
Voldemort. James also appears as Harry's patronus, in his animagus
stag form, Prongs. Maybe if someone is feeling generous (Lupin
perhaps?), they can let Harry take a trip into their memories
so he can see his parents in slightly more flattering circumstances
than bullying Snape. :) |
"She was a very
pretty woman. She had dark red hair and her eyes - her eyes
are just like mine, Harry thought, edging a little closer
to the glass. Bright green - exactly the same shape...... The
tall, thin, black-haired man standing next to her put his arm
around her. He wore glasses, and his hair was very untidy. It
stuck up at the back, just as Harry's did. Harry was so close
to the mirror now that his nose was nearly touching that of
his reflection.
'Mom?' he whispered. 'Dad?'"
