Mr. OLLIVANDER
Highly
respected and goodness-knows how old, yet highly unnerving as
well, Ollivander (no one's mentioned his first name yet...) owns
the well-reputed wand shop in Diagon Alley, open since 382 BC.
Ollivander has an extraordinary memory for the wands he's sold:
who it's been sold to, and the magical properties of each. One
gets the feeling there is some immense power behind this man and
his wealth of knowledge (he even sold Voldemort his wand!). I
wonder how old he is.... surely it was his ancestors who opened
the shop in 382 BC....
While not unkind, Ollivander is stern with Hagrid for having his
precious wand snapped, and manages to creep Harry out with his
unblinking, wide, moon-like eyes. Harry meets him again in his
fourth year when Mr. Ollivander oversees the 'weighing of the
wands' ceremony before the Triwizard Tournament.
Mr. Ollivander is currently missing. It is assumed that he has
either been murdered by or forced only to work for Lord Voldemort.

| "'Harry
tried. And tried. He had no idea what Mr. Ollivander was waiting
for. The pile of tried wands was mouthing higher and higher
on the spindly chair, but the more wands Mr. Ollivander pulled
from the shelves, the happier he seemed to become"
