MUNDUNGUS FLETCHER
Known
affectionately as 'Dung', Mundungus Fletcher is a member of the
Order of the Phoenix, and perhaps the member with the least credible
legal status (not counting wrongly-accused Sirius). He is a crook,
specializing in stolen and restricted goods, but is handy for
the order as he has contact with an entire underworld of thieves
and other unsavory sorts. He is extremely loyal to Dumbledore
out of gratitude, so at least with the Order, he is trustworthy
(except for the time he abandoned his guard post and Dementors
almost got Harry....).
He is a squat, bandy-legged man with matted ginger hair and baggy,
bloodshot eyes that 'give him the doleful look of a basset hound'.
His clothing is rather worn, and is often bulging in weird places
with concealed stolen goods. He smokes a foul-smelling pipe whenever
Molly Weasley isn't around; indeed, Molly highly disapproves of
Mundugus and isn't happy about having him near her children. But
criminal or no, he is always exceedingly polite to her, in his
own way.
Banned from the Hog's Head Pub (and doubtlessly other places in
Hogsmeade), Mundungus took to dressing as a heavily-concealed
witch in order to keep an eye on Harry Potter. |
"'Ten
Galleons the lot, then, Dung?' said Fred.
'Wiv all the trouble I went to to get 'em?' said Mundungus,
his saggy, bloodshot eyes stretching even wider. 'I'm sorry,
lads, but I'm not taking a Knut under twenty.'
'Dung likes his little joke,' Fred said to Harry.
'Yeah, his best one so far has been six Sickles for a bag of
knarl quills,' said George."
