CORNELIUS FUDGE
A
portly, gray-haired man, Cornelius Fudge is the current Minister
of Magic, but he wasn't the first choice to be so: he got the
job only after Bartemius Crouch was publicly shamed and Dumbledore
refused the position. Nowhere near as powerful or wise a wizard
as Dumbledore, Fudge reportedly sent owls to Hogwarts every day
requesting advice.
But over time, it seems that Cornelius grew to love his job, and
the power that came with it, and not only did he stop asking for
Dumbledore's advice, he began a yearlong crusade attempting to
discredit Dumbledore (and Harry Potter) for trying to tell the
truth about the return of Voldemort. While he often attempts to
be fatherly to Harry and Marietta Edgecomb, more often his paranoid
and easily-bought personality shows through that paternal facade.
Fudge eventually becomes so paranoid it becomes ridiculous and
boarders on mentally-ill, accusing Dumbledore of forming an army
to take over the Ministry and overthrow him. He threatens the
Daily Prophet to manipulate public opinion against Dumbledore
and Harry, portraying the former as senile and the latter a delusional,
fame-obsessed teenager.
Unfortunately for Fudge's state of denial, he saw Voldemort with
his own eyes, and has finally been forced to publicly acknowledge
that what Dumbledore and Harry had been saying was true. At least
now the Order of the Phoenix will have the Ministry of Magic on
their side... hopefully it will actually prove helpful (it will
be nice if Sirius's name gets cleared by them, even though it
will be, sadly, post-mortem). |
"'What about my punishment?'.......
'Oh, my dear boy, we're not going to punish you for a little
thing like that! cried Fudge, waving his crumpet impatiently.
'It was a accident! We don't send people to Azkaban just for
blowing up their aunts!'
But this didn't tally at all with Harry's past dealings with
the Ministry of Magic."
