The FAT FRIAR
The
Fat Friar is the jolly ghost of Hufflepuff House. We don't see
much of him, but our first introduction shows a great deal of
his character: forgiving, cheerful, and eternally optimistic.
Which is odd, because J.K. Rowling has stated that those who become
ghosts typically are not happy people. I wonder if the Friar is
one of those people who mask their depression by being extremely,
annoyingly happy and forcing that joy upon others. I know people
like that..... Anyway!
The poor Friar is stuck with the gloomy likes of Nearly-Headless
Nick, the Bloody Baron and the Gray Lady, all of whom seem to
oppose his viewpoints: notably giving Peeves a second chance at
something.... possibly to attend the Sorting Ceremony? Anyway,
as with all the Hogwarts ghosts, I hope we find out a bit more
about the good Friar's background.

"What
looked like a fat little monk was saying: 'Forgive and forget,
I say, we ought to give him a second chance-'
'My dear Friar, haven't we given Peeves all the chances he deserves?
He gives us all a bad name and you know, he's not really even
a ghost...'"
