The FAT LADY
Known
only as 'the Fat Lady' in a pink silk dress, this usually benevolent
portrait guards Gryffindor Tower. A password is required for her
to swing open to reveal the circular tower entrance, and she's
quite strict about it. Once Neville had to sleep on the floor
for a time because he'd forgotten the password.
One gets the feeling the Fat Lady has been the Gryffindor portrait
for a long time, and she's probably seen a lot of action in those
years. During Harry's first four years alone, she's dealt with
students sneaking out in the middle of the night (both visible
and invisible), and a violent attack by Sirius Black. Fortunately,
she was restored by Filch once she was found.
She's usually fairly kind, occasionally reprimanding, and sometimes
apathetic. I suppose you'd have to be pretty tough to deal with
teenagers constantly. She has a friend named Violet, whom she
often gossips with and celebrates the holidays with. |
"...the
Fat Lady was back. She had been expertly restored, but was still
extremely nervous, and had agreed to return to her job only
on condition that she was given extra protection. A bunch of
surly security trolls had been hired to guard her. "
